Country: Germany (Deutschland) State: Hessen City: Frankfurt am Main Location: Willy-Brandt-Platz (Theaterplatz) / Untermainanlage Built 1959-1963 by Apel, Beckert, Becker by incorporating the former "Schauspielhaus" (1902) (totally rebuilt 1949-1951 and used as opera house from 1951) into a new complex (a. k. a. "Theaterinsel") with an adjacent new drama theatre with a common façade, destroying Heinrich Seeling's 1902 façade. 1987 opera house destroyed by a fire. Subsequently complete rebuilding of the opera house. Re-opened 1991. "Schauspielhaus" used by the resident drama ensemble, "Schauspiel Frankfurt". "Opernhaus" used by the resident opera ensemble, "Oper Frankfurt". Notable world premieres:
