Built 1913 by Kirchoff & Rose for Martin Beck's Orpheum circuit. Opened 24 Mar 1913. Later operated by the Keith-Albee circuit. Used for vaudeville shows. 1930-1957 also used as a cinema, 1957-1965 exclusively used as a cinema. 1965 purchased by the Nederlanders Organization. Rebuiling and re-conversion to a theatre proper by Ralph Alswang. Ca. 1988 major exterior rebuilding, incorporating the theatre in the new skyscraper "Embassy Suites Hotel"; auditorium rebuilding by Fox & Fowle. Used for musical performances, e. g. J. Herman's "La Cage aux Folles" (1761 performances), Cy Coleman's "The Will Rogers Follies" (981 performances), or Elton John's "Aida". 1736 seats.
