[First theatre of the name built 1925 at another site, near the Art Institute of Chicago. Funded by William O. Goodman and Erna Sawyer Goodman in memory of their son, the playwright Kenneth Sawyer Goodman (1883-1918).]

New theatre built 2000 by KPMB Architects, DLK Architecture Inc., McClier Corporation. The complex contains two theatre halls, "Albert Ivar Goodman Theatre" and "Owen Bruner Goodman Theatre", named after members of the Goodman family who continue to be major donors.
