Country: United States of America State: Georgia City: Atlanta Location: 1374 West Peachtree Street Built as a permanent home to the "Theatre Atlanta" company, as a memorial to Helen Lee Cartledge, one of the victims of the Air France Flight 007 aeroplane crash in 1962. Funded by her mother Frania Lee, heiress to the Hunt Oil fortune. Opened 26 Oct 1966 as "Theatre Atlanta" with Peter Shaffer's "The Royal Hunt of the Sun". 1982 renamed "Center Stage", 2001 renamed "Earthlink Live", 2007 renamed "CW Midtown Music Complex", 2009 renamed "Center Stage" again. It is the first legitimate theatre built in Atlanta in over 30 years. In addition to seating 765 persons, it contains a gourmet restaurant and indoor parking. The Theatre was built in memory of Helen Cartledge, who, along with 107 other Atlantans interested in the arts, was killed in an air crash in Paris in 1963."
