Opened 26 Dec 1898 as "Empress Theatre". 1260 seats. Later renamed "Empress Theatre of Varieties" and "Empress Music Hall". 1931 rebuilding by Andrew Mather. Re-opened Sep 1931 as "New Empress Theatre". Closed 12 Jan 1957. Converted into a cinema by David E. Nye and F. Mudd. Re-opened 5 Feb 1957 as "Granada Theatre". Closed 10 Feb 1967.
