Built 1799 as a magistrate building. Severely damaged in World War II. 1946-1949 rebuilt by B. V. Antipov and V. V. Ovchinnikov. Named in honour of the Russian writer, Ivan Sergeyevich Turgeniev (1818-1883). Since 1981 used as a youth theatre ("Teatr Yunovo Zritelya"). Later renamed "Orlovsky gosudarstvenny teatr dlya detey i molodozhi 'Svobodnoye prostranstvo'" (Oryol State Theater for Children and Youth "Free Space").
