Opened 10 June 1877 with Giuseppe Verdi's opera "La forza del destino". 1884 renamed in honour of the King of Italy, Vittorio Emanuele II. Later renamed "Teatro comunale Vittoria Colonna", not in honour of the Italian poet of that name, but of countess Vittoria Colonna de Cabrera (1558-1633), founder of the city of Vittoria.
