Built 1678 by Tommaso Bezzi. Opened 1678 as "Teatro San Giovanni Grisostomo" with Carlo Pallavicino's opera "Vespasiano". 1797 renamed "Teatro Civico". 1834 restorations, renamed "Teatro Emeronitto". 1837 renamed "Teatro Malibran" in honour of the Spanish opera singer, María Malibrán (1808-1836). 1992 restorations and additions. Since 2001, used for opera performances by the "Teatro La Fenice" opera company.
