Country: Italy (Italia) Region: Veneto City: Venezia Location: San Marco, 4650/B (Calle del Teatro) Opened 1622 as "Teatro Vendramin", named after its owners. Also known as "Teatro San Salvatore" or "Teatro San Luca". Destroyed by a fire in 1653. Subsequently rebuilt. Closed 1807. 1817 major rebuildings, reopened 1818. 1833 alterations, reopened 28 Sep 1833 as "Teatro Apollo". 1875 renamed "Teatro Goldoni" in honour of the Italian playwright, Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793). Closed after World War II due to safety reasons, 1957 dispossessed from the Vendram family. Reopened 1979. Currently one of the homes of the "Theatre Stabile del Veneto Carlo Goldoni" drama company.
