Built 1732 by Gerolamo Theodoli (on part of the Curia section of the ancient Theatre of Pompeius, the site of the assassination of Julius Caesar). Opened 31 Jan 1732 with Domenico Sarro's opera "Berenice". Subsequently used as Rome's major opera house until the late 19th century. Various restorations. 696 seats. Since 1994 home to the Teatro Stabile di Roma company and mostly used for drama performances.
