Built 1825-1828 by Carlo Barabino. Opened 7 April 1828 with Bellini's "Bianca e Fernando". Named in honour of Carlo Felice di Savoia (1765-1821), Viceroy of Sardinia. Various restorations between 1859 and 1934. 2500 seats. Destroyed by bombs on 8 August 1943.

1983-1990 major rebuilding by Aldo Rossi and Ignazi Gardella. Re-opened 18 June 1991 with Verdi's "Il Trovatore". 2500 setas.
