Painted curtain by Antonio Pio. Opened 15 Aug 1846 with Donizetti's "Maria di Rohan" and the ballet, "Beatrice di Gand". 1927 renamed in honour of the Italian tenor, Alessandro Bonci (1870-1940). 1996 restorations.
