Cultural complex, built 1978-1985 by Raue, Rollenhagen und Lindemann architects. The name "Gasteig" is an old local placename meaning "steep track". The complex includes a folk high school, the city library, a conservatory and several halls:

  • Philharmonie: Home to the "Münchner Philharmoniker". 2387 seats. Organ by Orgelbau Klais, 1985.
  • Carl-Orff-Saal: Chamber concert hall, named in honour of the German composer Carl Orff (1895-1982). 528 to 598 seats.
  • Black Box: 120 to 225 seats (+ 20 standing)
  • Kleiner Konzertsaal: Chamber concert hall. 191 seats.
