Country: Germany (Deutschland) State: Hessen District: Kreis Groß-Gerau City: Mörfelden-Walldorf Location: Mörfelden; Westendstraße 60 Multi-purpose hall, built 1928-1930 by Georg Feick as "Volkshaus" [People's House], a community centre and house of culture for the working class. Built and operated by the workers' association "Vereins zur Errichtung eines Arbeiter-Vereinshauses". Opened April 1930. 1933 seized by the Nazi regime, from 1935 converted to a warehouse and factory. Reopened 1945. From 1950 owned by a new "Volkshaus-Verein". 1964 purchased by the municipality of Mörfelden. 1964-1966 major extenstion and rebuilding, destroying the modernist facade. Re-opened 1966 as "Bürgerhaus". 2000-2003 renovations and reconstruction of the facade. |
