Built 1970-1975 by Helmut Bätzner. Used for opera, drama and ballet performances by the resident companies. Home to the annual "Händel-Festspiele Karlsruhe" festival. The complex contains two halls:

  • Großes Haus: Opened 29 Aug 1975 with Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte". 1002 seats.
  • Kleines Haus: Opened 27 Sep 1975 with Peter Hack's "Der Frieden" (after Aristophanes). 350-550 seats.

2022-2034 major restoration and rebuilding.
