Bonn: Beethovenhalle (new) |
Country: Germany (Deutschland) State: Nordrhein-Westfalen City: Bonn Location: Wachsbleiche 17 Concert and multi-purpose hall, built 1956-1959 by Siegfried Wolske. Pipe organ by Klais (IV/P 67). Named in honour of the Bonn-born composer, Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827); the third hall of that name in Bonn following the Beethovenhalle at another location that was destroyed in 1944. Opened 8 Sep 1959 with Beethoven's ouverture "Zur Weihe des Hauses", Paul Hindemith's "Nobilissima Vision" conducted by the composer, and speeches including one by the German president, Theodor Heuss. 1421 seats. Used for concerts, carnival balls and various events. Home to Beethoven-Orchester Bonn. Until the government seat of the Federal Reppublic of Germany moved to Berlin, used for the annual Bundespresseball, frequently used for party conventions and four times used as a venue for the "Bundesversammlung" parliament that elects the German president. In 2011 it was widely debated whether the hall should be replaced or renovated. 2016-2020 closed for renovations. Links: www.beethovenhalle.de, Wikipedia |
