Home to the Berliner Philharmoniker. Destroyed by bombs on 30 January 1944. The building contained three halls:

  • Großer Saal der Philharmonie: Built 1876 by Gustav Knoblauch as a "Central Skating Rink", a roller skating rink. Opened 23 Feb 1877. Since 1882 used as a concert venue. Major rebuilding 1887-1888 by Franz Heinrich Schwechten. Re-opened as "Philharmonie". Organ by Schlag & Söhne (replaced 1912 by an organ by E. F. Walcker & Cie.). 1614 seats.
  • Oberlichtsaal: Built 1898 by Ludwig Heim, converting a former garden courtyard.
  • Beethovensaal: Built 1898 by Ludwig Heim. 1066 seats.

[1960-1963, a new "Philharmonie" building was built by Hans Scharoun on another site.]
