Opened 2 June 1901 with Verdi's "Aida". Officially opened 31 May 1903 with a gala performance of Tristan Bernard's vaudeville "L'Anglais tel qu'on le parle", Leoncavallo's "I Pagliacci" and orchestral works. 1940-1944 home to the Assemblée Nationale and the Senate, the parliaments of the French Vichy regime collaborating with Nazi Germany. 1995 major restoration.
