Paris: Boulevard du Temple

Country: France
City: Paris
Region: Île-de-France
Department: Paris
Location: IX.; boulevard du Temple

In the late 18th century and the 19th century, the Boulevard du Temple was lined with many theatres and cafés. It was also known as "Boulevard du Crime". Nearly all theatres (with the exeption of today's Théâtre Déjazet) were closed and demolished in the early 1860s, making room for the creation of Place de la République. The atmosphere of the entertainment venues on Boulevard du Temple stimulated the imagination of many artists and authors in later times, namely in the film "Les enfants du Paradis" set at the Théâtre des Funambules.
