Built by Cornelis Antonius Bombach. Opened 5 May 1892. 1360 seats. 1941 renamed "Joodse Schouwburg" by the German Nazi occupation regime and confined to Jewish employees and patrons. Closed July 1942. Subsequently used for incarcerating Dutch Jews before their deportation to Nazi concentration camps until 1943. Later used as dance hall "Piccadilly". Later purchased by the Dutch government, closed and demolished, with only the facade remaining. 1958 courtyard and memorial chapel opened as a National Holocaust Memorial. Since 1992 part of the "Joods Historisch Museum". 2021-2022 renovations.
