Built 1879 by Luis Antonio Fenech and Ramiro Amador de los Ríos, replacing the "Mesón de la Fruta" (the site of a 1575 "corral de comedia" and a 1630 comedy theatre). Opened 19 Oct 1879. Named in honour of the Spanish playwright, Francisco de Rojas Zorrilla (1607-1648).
