![]() Reverse Text: "The Masonic Temple is one of the oldest Masonic Lodge halls still in use. St. John's Lodge, No. 3, A. F. & A. M., second in North Carolina when chartered January 10, 1772, has been honored locally by Presidents Washington and Monroe. The Masonic Theatre on the first floor is the oldest theatre still operating in the United States, being used for the purpose since 1804. In the rear of the building, Sep. 5, 1802, was the famed duel between Governor Spaight and John Stanly, Spaight being killed."
