Built 1998-2002 by Robert A. M. Stern and Morris Architects, on the former site of Sam Houston Coliseum and Music Hall (built 1937, demolished 1998). Named after the American politician and businessman, William P. Hobby, Jr. (1932-), a major donor. Opened in May 2002. The complex contains two halls: Sarofim Hall (2650 seats, named after the Egyptian businessman Fayez Sarofim) and Zilkha Hall (500 seats, named after the Iraqi/British businesman Selim Zilkha). Home to "Theatre Under the Stars", a series of touring Broadway productions.
