Built 1899 as "Richmond Theatre and Opera House" by Frank Matcham (on the site of the Theatre Royal Richmond, demolished in 1884). 1902 renamed "Prince of Wales Theatre". 1909 renamed "Richmond Hippodrome". Also known as "Theatre Royal, Richmond" and under its popular name, "The Theatre on the Green". 1915 refurbishment. 1975 restoration of foyer, seating changes. 1990-1991 major refurbishment by Donald Armstrong; interior redecoration by Carl Toms. Operated by the Ambassador Theatre Group. 840 seats.
