Country: England, United Kingdom City: London Borough: London Borough of Camden Location: Holborn, 242-245 High Holborn Built 1857 by William Finch Hill and Edward Lewis Paraire. Opened 16 Nov 1857 as "Weston's Music Hall", a part of the Seven Tankards & Punchbowl Public House. 1868 rebuilding. Re-opened as "Royal Music Hall". 1887 major rebuilding by Lander & Bedells. 1892 renamed "Royal Holborn Theatre of Varieties". 1897 new facade by Ernest Runtz. 1905 major rebuilding by Frank Matcham. Re-opened 29 Jan 1906 as "Holborn Empire Theatre" (2000 seats), with the 1897 facade surviving. Damaged by bombs 11/12 May 1941. Remains demolished in 1961 in favour of an office block.
