Built 1928-1929 by William Milburn jr. (of W. and T. R. Milburn) for Moss Empires on the site of a brewery and a cinema. Opened 1929 with a musical. 1930 converted into a cinema by W. R. Glen. 1933 sold to Gaumont British. 1933 installation of a cinema organ by W. E: Trent. 1945-1948, 1958, and 1972 alterations. From 1981, again used as a theatre, mainly for live shows. Also used as a guest venue by the Welsh National Opera company. From 1986, used as a musical theatre. 1990 bought by Apollo Leisure. 1992-1993 restoration of façade. Currently used for muscial performances. Originally 2835 seats, today 2001 seats.
