Built 1897 by Frank Matcham for Frederick William Purcell. Opened 27 Dec 1897 as "Alexandra Theatre". Named in honour of Queen Alexandra (1844-1925). 1905 renamed "Palace Theatre of Varieties". 1909 renamed "Alexandra Theatre". Closed Oct 1950. Demolished in the early 1960s in favour of a housing block ("Alexandra Court").
