Founded 1895 by Alexey Sergeyevich Suvorin as "Teatr Suvorin". Also known as "Maly Teatr" (Small Theatre). Later renamed in honour of the Russian writer, Maxim Gorky (1868-1936). Later renamed in honour of the Russian theatre director Georgy Alexandrovich Tovstonogov (1915-1989). 1114 seats.
