Country: Italy (Italia) Region: Marche City: Pesaro Location: Piazzale Albani 12 [First theatre on the site: "Teatro del Sole", opened 1637.] Built 1818, replacing the previous theatre. Opened 10 June 1818 as "Teatro Nuovo" with Gioacchino Rossini's opera "La gazza ladra". 1854 renamed in honour of the Italian opera composer, Gioacchino Rossini (1792-1868). Damaged by an earthquake on 30 Oct 1930. 1930-1934 renovations. Reopened Aug 1934. Closed 1966 due to structural problems, subsequently restored.
