Opened 1 Oct 1898 as "Stadttheater" with Friedrich Schiller's drama "Die Jungfrau von Orléans". Severely damaged by bombs on 10 Apr 1945. Subsequently rebuilt. Re-opened 15 Oct 1945. 1991 renamed "Vogtlandtheater Plauen" after the surrounding region, the "Vogtland". Used for opera, ballet and performances by the resident "Theater Plauen-Zwickau" companies.
