Built from 1060 as monastery church "Klosterkirche Unser Lieben Frauen" (Klosterkirche St. Marien, Marienkirche, Liebfrauenkirche). Various rebuildings. 1977 converted into a concert hall and named in honour of the German composer, Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767). Opened 17 Sep 1977. 1979 installation of a concert organ by Jehmlich. Closed as a concert hall in 2020.

2020-2022 major renovation. Re-opened 2022 without the organ (that had been put in storage). Subsequently used as a museum hall by the Kunstmuseum Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen. Only occasionally used for concerts.
