Hamburg: Flora-Theater

Country: Germany (Deutschland)
State: Hamburg
City: Hamburg
Location: Schanzenviertel, Schulterblatt 71

Built 1888 as "Tivoli-Theater", soon renamed "Concerthaus Flora", later renamed "Flora-Theater". 1953-1964 used as a cinema. 1964-1987 used as a department store. Ca. 1988 plans to convert the site to a theatre again to be used for commercial musical productions. In response to those plans, declared as squatted by several leftist cultural groups on 1 November 1989. Since then, used as a cultural centre named "Rote Flora" (Red Flora). [The proposed musical theatre was built 1988-1990 as "Neue Flora" at another site.]
