Opened 23 July 1907 with Kleist's "Der zerbrochene Krug" and Schiller's "Wallensteins Lager". Severely damaged by bombs in 1944. 1945 provisionally restored. 1951 renovation and alterations of auditorium and foyers. 1979-1980 and 1998 renovations of the auditorium and foyers to the original plans.
