Country: Germany (Deutschland) State: Nordrhein-Westfalen City: Duisburg Location: Neckarstraße 1 / König-Heinrich-Platz Built 1911-1912 by Martin Dülfer for the city of Duisburg. Opened 7 November 1912 with Schiller's "Wallensteins Lager" and the "Festwiese" scene from Wagner's "Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg". Destroyed by bombs on 20 Dec 1942, with only the foyers and the exterior walls surviving. 1945-1945 safety measures. 1950-1951 auditorium rebuilding by Siegfried von Tilling (with only two instead of the original four balconies). 1951-1952 reconstruction of the stagehouse. Since 1956, home to the "Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg" opera company (together with the Opernhaus Düsseldorf). Re-opened 30 Sep 1956 with Verdi's "Falstaff". 1983-1987 façade renovations and modernization of the stage technology. Originally 1652 seats, today 1118 seats. Notable world premieres:
