Built 1958-1965 by Heinrich Rosskotten, Josef Clemens, Edgar Frasch, and Edgar Tritthart at the former site of the synagogue (demolished by the Nazis in 1938) and the the former Stadttheater (destroyed by bombs in 1943 and 1944). Ca. 1170 seats. Used for opera performances by the resident ensemble.
