Country: Germany (Deutschland) State: Sachsen City: Chemnitz (Karl-Marx-Stadt) Location: Theaterstraße / Am Wall / Straße der Nationen / Brückenstraße Built 1969-1974 by an architects' group led by Rudolf Weißers. Opened 4 Oct 1974. The complex includes two halls, "Großer Saal" (1780 seats) and "Kleiner Saal" (562 seats), various function rooms, and a hotel tower. 1972-1976 installation of an organ by VEB Orgelbau Dresden (now Orgelbau Jehmlich). 1995 new façade decoration. Home to the Robert-Schumann-Philharmonie Chemnitz. Used for classical and pop concerts, musical theatre and drama performances, congresses and various festivities.
