After World War II used as a cinema. 1952 rebuilding. 1977 demolition of the "Mariensaal". 1977-1980 major extension by a new wing with a metal facade by Gottfried Böhm, including a theatre hall. Named after the Lion of Berg, the heraldic animal of the former duchy of Berg. Used for theatre performances, concerts, balls, conventions and various other events.
