Built ca. 1584. First recorded performance given in 1629. In the 18th century converted to a lodging house. Rediscovered during the renovation of Plaza Mayor in 1953. Re-opened 29 May 1954. Considered the best preserved surviving example of a 17th century Spanish "corral de comedia" (courtyard theatre). Venue of the annual Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico.
