Built 1874 by Pieter Jan August Dens as "Nederlandse Schouwburg". Opened 16 Aug 1874. Also known as "Théâtre Flamand", "Stedelijke Huurschouwburg", "Volksschouwburg" and "Stadsschouwburg". Used for Flemish theatre performances by the "Nationaal Toneel" theatre company. 1903 renamed "Koninlijke Nederlandse Schouwburg (KNS)". In 1934 the KNS theatre company moved to the Bourlaschouwburg. 1945-1958 used by the "Koninklijk Jeugdtheater" [Royal Youth Theatre]. Demolished in 1960.
